The real estate market in Canet de Mar
Canet de Mar is one of the Catalan municipalities that has grown the most in recent years. During the real estate boom, this town hosted dozens of new buildings. This, added to the real estate expansion beyond the limits of the metropolitan area of Barcelona, has doubled its population in just over 10 years.
Its inhabitants live mainly from tourism, together with the agricultural exploitation and the textile industry. Proof of this is the existence of the University School of Technical Engineering in Knitted Fabrics, the only center in Spain that offers this type of study.
Architecture and services
In addition to its beaches, Canet de Mar has a great artistic, cultural and social, that has been forming for centuries in this coastal town. One of the greatest contributions to the culture of Canet has been the architectural work of Lluís Domènech i Montaner (1850 - 1923), with the house Roura, the house Domènech i Montaner, l'Ateneu Canetenc and the reform of the Santa Florentina castle. To this must be added also the nineteenth-century and contemporary constructions and others of colonial and Indian influence.
