The real estate market in Calonge
Calonge is one of the municipalities that make up the Costa Brava. Located in the Baix Empordà region, it is divided into two parts. The first is a medieval village on the top of a hill, where most of the town's historical and cultural heritage is located. The second, located in the Bay of Sant Antoni, is dedicated to tourism, and therefore has more modern buildings; blocks of apartments, hotels and a multitude of townhouses.
The original Calonge is located about four kilometers from the bay of Sant Antoni and houses the main urban center and historical heritage, such as the towers and walls of the castle of Calonge, dating from the thirteenth century. The other part, the most modern and coastal, is used as a holiday destination and is known as Sant Antoni de Calonge.
Like many other municipalities of the Costa Brava, Calonge has remains that go back to prehistory, such as dolmens and menhirs, and valuable Roman, medieval and modernist references.
The coast and its prices
The coast of Calonge is located in the south of the town, in a rocky and steep area. The area of Treumal is covered with pine forests that reach the seashore. Although it is a protected area, there are several summer buildings, hotels and other establishments, most of them before Calonge experienced the tourism boom.
Along its coast there are several coves such as Cap Roig, La Caleta and the beaches of Can Cristos, as well as the Treumal cove, where there is a deep, very urbanized entrance.
Unlike other localities in the area, Calonge has an offer of properties with a more moderate price. Currently, the average price of housing in this area is 1,730 euros per square meter.
